The latest smoking rate in Hong Kong is 8.5%. According to the latest data from the Census and Statistics Department, there were 538,000 smokers aged 15 or above in Hong Kong last year, a decrease of 6% from 577,000 in 2023. The average person smokes 10.2 cigarettes per day. The number of people using e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products has also decreased. The daily smoking rate for men has fallen to 15.2%, and for women to 2.5%. In response to the World Health Organization's designation of May 31st as "World No Tobacco Day," the Department of Health will hold a "Quit in June" event next month. The Hong Kong Council on Smoking and Health advocates that the government continue to reduce the attractiveness of tobacco products, improve smoking cessation services, and further reduce the smoking rate.
