US Senate Republicans abandoned plans to vote on funding for immigration enforcement, in a revolt against one of President Donald Trump's priorities a 1.8 billion US dollars fund for victims of government weaponisation, including those convicted of violent crimes during the Washington Capitol riot on January 6, 2021.

That controversial fund and another 1 billion dollars for building a White House ballroom were added at Trump's behest, and became sticking points.

Reporters asked US President Donald Trump at an Oval Office event whether he is losing control of Senate Republicans as they appear poised to abandon a proposal for 1 billion US dollars in security funding in favour of the White House complex and his ballroom project, Trump said he didn't know.

This as Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said Republicans are fleeing Washington after failing to advance the immigration enforcement bill.
