In Japan's Hiroshima Prefecture, a revered Buddhist hall home to the holy "eternal flame" caught fire on Wednesday morning and was eventually razed to the ground. No injuries have been reported so far. At around 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, police on Miyajima Island were alerted to a fire at the Reikado Hall, part of Daishoin Buddhist temple complex, near the summit of Mount Misen. Dozens of firefighters were dispatched to the scene. The devastating blaze, which also spread to nearby woodland, was confirmed extinguished on Thursday, but the historic building was completely consumed by the fire. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the incident. The hall was best known for housing an "eternal flame" which the temple says has been maintained for more than 1,000 years since Buddhist monk Kukai lit it for a goma prayer.
