US President Trump revealed that during his visit to China, he discussed issues such as Taiwan, the Jimmy Lai case, and aircraft purchases with President Xi Jinping, but did not discuss tariffs.

He said a decision on arms sales to Taiwan would be made in the near future, and reminded Taiwan not to expect unconditional military assistance from the United States, reiterating that the US policy towards Taiwan remains unchanged.

Trump concluded his state visit to China and returned to the White House on Friday, describing the trip as very successful.

Trump said: “We did great trade deals, we had great relationships, and a lot of things, have happened, and you'll be hearing about them, but that was a tremendous success. I think it really was a historic moment."

During his meeting with Trump in Beijing on Thursday, President Xi Jinping stated that Taiwan is the most important issue in Sino-US relations.

He warned that mishandling it could lead to clashes or even conflict, pushing the entire Sino-US relationship into a very dangerous situation.

On his return to the US aboard Air Force One, Trump told reporters that he made no commitments to Xi Jinping regarding Taiwan.

Regarding the US$14 billion arms sale to Taiwan, which remains unresolved, Trump indicated that he would first speak with relevant Taiwanese figures before making a decision in the near future.

He also said that Xi Jinping directly asked whether the US would defend Taiwan should an armed conflict break out in the Taiwan Strait.

Trump said he replied that he did not want to discuss that matter.
