A woman in her 70s was found dead early this morning after a fire broke out at Yu Tung Court in Tung Chung. Preliminary findings from the Fire Services Department suggest the blaze was caused by an electrical short circuit. The incident began at approximately 4:00 AM when police received multiple emergency calls reporting thick smoke and flames billowing from a middle-floor unit in Hei Tung House. Firefighters arriving at the scene deployed one water jet and a breathing apparatus team to combat the fire. After the flames were extinguished, crews entered the premises and discovered the body of the female victim. The intensity of the fire left a visible mark on the building’s exterior, with the outer walls of the three floors directly above the unit heavily blackened by soot. The window frames of the affected flat were completely destroyed in the heat, and the area has since been covered with white sheets for investigation. Fire investigators have concluded that an electrical fault in a household appliance likely triggered the fire, though a full inquiry into the exact circumstances is ongoing.
