Britain's Princess Catherine is on the second day of her first solo overseas trip since announcing her cancer was in remission. She travels to Italy on a "fact-finding" mission to explore different approaches to supporting young children and their carers. Arriving at the city hall in Reggio Emilia in northern Italy, Kate visits a school and a learning centre. The trip is part of her work to increase public understanding of the importance of supporting children in the first five years of life. Rolling up to the Reggio Emilia city hall in north Italy, Princess Catherine receives a warm welcome from a waiting crowd and shares a moment with local children. Kate was all smiles as she sits with the mayor and local education leaders who helped pioneer their city's eponymous child-centred education approach that adapts to the dynamic needs of preschool and primary students. Education is the signature cause of the mother of three, who founded the Foundation Centre for Early Childhood in 2021. "It is extraordinary and that is why I wanted to come and visit Reggio Emilia because your history is so rich and I have always been fascinated by the philosophy," Kate says. Afterwards, she stops at the International Centre Loris Malaguzzi, the cultural hub and heart of the Reggio Emilia education approach. There, she meets with its president, Maddalena Tedeschi, who says Kate had a lot of questions about early education and children with learning difficulties. She later visits a local school where she spends time and exchanges hugs with some students. The princess, who spent a gap year in Florence when she was younger, spoke a few words of Italian to a group, introducing herself as Caterina.
