President Xi Jinping greets US President Donald Trump at the welcoming ceremony outside the Great Hall of the People in Beijing this morning.

This is the first US presidential visit to China in almost nine years, after President Xi previously hosted Trump in Beijing in November 2017.

US President Donald Trump's motorcade drives past Tiananmen Square to arrive at the Great Hall of the People at 10 am this morning.

President Xi Jinping greets Trump and his delegates upon their arrival.

The two leaders exchange a handshake, with Trump offering a few pats on the back of President Xi's hand.

Trump is then seen shaking hands with Chinese officials including Secretary of the Secretariat of the Chinese Communist Party Cai Qi, Foreign Minister Wang Yi, and Minister of National Defense Dong Jun.

Xi welcomes individuals from the US delegation including US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Trump's son Eric Trump.

A 21-gun salute fires and a military band plays the national anthems of China and the US to mark the start of the ceremony.

Xi then accompanies Trump as the two leaders review the Guard of Honor of the People's Liberation Army.

More than a hundred children are at the ceremony, holding bouquets as they wave to welcome the leaders.

Xi and Trump chat briefly as they enter the Great Hall of the People after the ceremony.

Also at the ceremony are executives from US corporations who travelled to Beijing as part of the delegate.

Reuters report Trump says the business leaders he brought along, some 17 CEOs, including Nvidia's Jensen Huang, Tesla's Elon Musk, Apple's Tim Cook and Boeing's Kelly Ortberg, all respect and value China and Trump encourages them to expand cooperation with China.
