U.S. President Donald Trump departed for China Tuesday, for a high-stakes meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing. The visit follows Trump's unsuccessful attempts to persuade China to influence Iran to meet U.S. terms to end the war. U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told House lawmakers the ceasefire with Iran remains in effect despite recent exchanges of fire. Hegseth faced another round of bipartisan questioning over the costs and endgame of the war, defending the administration's $1.5 trillion military budget request for 2027. Russian President Vladimir Putin welcomed the test launch of a new intercontinental ballistic missile as a key part of efforts to modernize the country's nuclear forces. Putin said the nuclear-armed Sarmat missile is intended to replace the aging Soviet-built Voyevoda and would enter combat service at the end of the year. And officials say twelve employees at a Dutch hospital, where a passenger from the MV Hondius is being treated, will quarantine for six weeks as a "precaution" after improperly handling bodily fluids.
