Six people have been arrested including the owner of a renovation company over alleged employment of illegal workers.

The five arrested workers from the mainland are aged between 33 and 45.

All entered the city as tourists.

The 30-year-old company owner allegedly tried to cut cost by recruiting his fellow villagers from the mainland to work in renovation projects in village houses in Tai Po.

They were involved in cement, painting, plumbing and electricity works, earning daily wages of 300 to 400 dollars.

In order to evade detection, he would personally drive the workers every day to the sites, and used his office in an industrial building in Kwai Chung as their dormitory.
