Speaking at the Asia summit of the fifth International Healthcare Week hosted by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Chief Executive John Lee says the city's work will complement the nation's 15th Five Year Plan and collectively push for medical innovation with other Greater Bay Area cities.

This year is transformative for our regulatory landscape.

In March, we began the phased implementation of primary evaluation of new drug registration.

That marks a milestone in our transition to a fully independent drug evaluation framework.

We aim for full implementation by 2030.

I'm also pleased to announce in Hong Kong, a centre for medical product right regulation will be established by the year's end.

That will put Hong Kong on a map as a trusty hub for regulation excellence.

The summit brings together more than 90 medical sector officials and experts from across 15 countries and regions.

Among the primary topics discussed at the event was the integration of AI in the development of the medical sector in Asia.
