The world famous wildlife documentary presenter David Attenborough has turned 100 years old.
A birthday message to Attenborough was displayed in central London's Piccadilly Circus on Friday.
Through BBC programmes such as Life on Earth, The Private Life of Plants and The Blue Planet, Attenborough has illuminated the beauty, ferocity and sometimes weirdness of nature in a hushed melodic voice that conveys his own awe at what he is witnessing.
His broadcasting career began in the early 1950s after joining the BBC as a trainee producer. As a child Attenborough collected fossils, stones and natural specimens.
