Hong Kong's economy grew 5.9 percent year-on-year in the first quarter, compared with the increase of 4 percent in the fourth quarter of 2025, according to data from the Census and Statistics Department.

Analysed by major GDP component, private consumption expenditure increased by 5 percent in the first quarter, faster than the increase of 2.5 percent in the fourth quarter of 2025.

Government consumption expenditure increased 2.9 percent, up from 1.5 percent in the previous quarter.

Exports of services rose by 3.5 percent.

Looking ahead, a government spokesperson said Hong Kong's economic growth outlook remains positive.

However, persistent tensions in the Middle East pose downside risks. In response, the government has taken targeted measures to safeguard energy supply stability.
