His companion, also from Hong Kong, was rescued.

Japan media report that the pair was located on the west side of the peak.

The two were stranded while scaling down a cliff at the Hotakadake Sanso area at an altitude of around 3,100 feet on Sunday afternoon.

A 30-year-old man was rescued by helicopter on Tuesday and was sent to hospital while conscious.

His 22-year-old companion was found dead after being trapped on the treacherous slope.
