Man receives 32-month jail term after scamming friend's mother

A Hong Kong Court on Monday sentenced a man to prison for 32 months after he was convicted of scamming over 500,000 dollars from his friend's mother. The man's friend was said to have been trapped in Thailand's KK Park.
The sentencing was held at Wan Chai District Court. The court says the offender was 23 years old when he committed the crime. In 2024, the woman received a call from his son, saying he had been kidnapped to Thailand's KK Park. The son said his friend "Ken" would be able to rescue him and asked his mother to pay ransome to the person. But the offender was actually "Ken."
In the end, the mother paid a total of 530,000 dollars to the offender.
The court criticised the man for acting "unshameful" and sentenced him to a 32-month jail term.
