Deputy Financial Secretary Michael Wong says he believes the government will be able to secure enough owners' consent to trigger the compulsory buyout of Wang Chi House at Wang Fuk Court. Wang Chi House is the only block not damaged in the deadly blaze. Under the government's proposal announced earlier, the acquisition process can begin if 75 percent of owners there confirm by the end of June that they are willing to sell their property rights. Speaking on a radio programme, Wong said an earlier survey showed the threshold had already been met while another ten-odd percent of residents were still considering their options. Wong stressed there would be no legislative move to force an acquisition if the proportion of willing sellers falls too low. As for the use of the remaining seven demolished blocks, Wong reiterated the site would be redeveloped into a park and community facilities.
