On May Day there were rallies and street protests around the world calling for peace higher wages and better working conditions as many workers grapple with rising energy costs and shrinking purchasing power as a result of the Iran war.

From thousands outside City Hall in Philadelphia To Chicago Illinois where workers were out in force calling people to strike for immigrant rights.

And some calling for ICE to free the more than 3,000 people they have allegedly abducted.

In New York City, Mayor Zohran Mamdani showed his support for the unions at a rally at Washington Square Park and spoke of the history of labour rights movements in the city.

In San Francisco, protesters blocked a road outside the international terminal at San Francisco's airport leading to the street's closure for about two hours.

Several state and city elected officials were arrested.

Meanwhile in Russia trade unions and political parties marked May Day with rallies concerts and smaller gatherings across the country as large nationwide demonstrations were not held this year amid security concerns.

And in Portugal thousands of workers gathered across the country to oppose a proposed labour reform led by the government.

Protesters marched and chanted slogans on the streets of Lisbon including the Workers Confederation Union the largest workers union in Portugal which announced a general strike for June 3rd.

This will be the second general strike in the country since protests began in December.
