Residents of Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po are returning to their flats in batches for the tenth day. Today, access was granted to Wang Tai House, which saw the highest number of fatalities. The government said residents were accompanied by social workers during the process, especially for bereaved. The deadly blaze claimed 82 lives in this single block: Wang Tai House. Residents are allowed back in batches today. Deputy Chief Secretary for Administration Cheuk Wing-hing and Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs Alice Mak visited the site. Cheuk said clinical psychologists and social workers are accompanying residents throughout the process, especially those with family members who perished in the blaze. He said psychological support begins before residents go upstairs, with staff briefing them on what to expect with photos. Support continues during the visit through ongoing counseling. Residents of Wang Kin House are also granted access today. Over the past nine days, the arrangements have been completed at four blocks. A total of 951 households, involving more than 3,460 residents, have returned so far. In response to tenants' concerns that most of the four-person quota for returning upstairs was taken up by owners, the government said if disputes continue, additional arrangements may be made for tenants. As for when residents can return home again for further cleanup, Cheuk said a decision will be made after the first phase of access is completed on May 4th.
