The United Arab Emirates has announced its withdrawl from the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, or OPEC. stripping the cartel of one of its largest producers.

The UAE's decision had been rumoured for some time, as it pushed back in recent years against OPEC production
quotas it felt had been too low.

The Associated Press' Jon Gambrell said "This is all coming as the whole Middle East is still reeling from the Iran war. Iran had targeted Gulf Arab oil infrastructure as well as natural gas sites. And many of these producers in the region are unable to get their oil and natural gas out to market because Tehran maintains its chokehold on the Strait of Hormuz."

"So the UAE is making this decision now as global markets are unsettled and as it moves into the future, it will be setting its own path and potentially butting up against the OPEC that it once belonged to."

Meanwhile, the tension in the Middle East shows no sign of lessening as the US Defense Department released a video showing Marines boarding M/V Blue Star III, a commercial ship suspected of attempting to transit to Iran in violation of the US blockade.

The US Central Command said so far 39 vessels have been redirected to ensure compliance with the blockade.

And In Iran, the country's army spokesman said his country does not consider the war with the US and Israel to be over.

Brigadier General Mohammed Akrami Nia said it has updated its target database during the ceasefire.

He also said the naval forces control the eastern part of the Strait of Hormuz, while the Revolutionary Guard is responsible for security in the western part.
