Amber rainstorm warning in force and cooler weather by midnight

The Amber Rainstorm Warning is currently in force. The Hong Kong Observatory says that widespread heavy rain may affect the territory in the next one to two hours, and the public should remain alert. Strong gusts are also expected, and people outdoors are advised to seek safe shelter as soon as possible.

Thunderstorms associated with an upper-air disturbance are affecting inland Guangdong and the Pearl River Estuary. 

Meanwhile, a cold front in northern Guangdong is moving south and is expected to cross coastal areas later this afternoon. Under the influence of this cold front, temperatures are forecast to drop to around 21 degrees Celsius by midnight.
