The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new medical teaching and research complex.

Chief Executive John Lee, Director of Beijing's Liaison Office in Hong Kong Zhou Ji, and Secretary for Health Lo Chung-mau also attended the ceremony.

The government previously approved HKUST to establish the city's third medical school, offering a four-year second degree medical program, with applications opening in the middle of next year.

John Lee said the national 15th Five Year Plan supports Hong Kong in becoming an international hub for high calibre talent.

A new medical school will help turn that into reality, attracting and training top talent in healthcare and higher education.
