Woman loses over 5 million dollars after falling prey to cryptocurrency scam

A woman faced losses of up to 5.2 million dollars after she fell victim to an online cryptocurrency scam.
The police noted on social media that the woman became acquainted with a scammer disguised as a cryptocurrency expert via a second hand furniture chat group.
She was then led to a bogus website where she made more than 60 transfers to the scammer under the latter's instructions.
This as the police arrested 71 individuals over the past two weeks over their suspected involvement in 66 fraud cases, involving some 136 victims and 535 million dollars.
The most serious case involved a victim losing 14.7 million dollars after they received a fake email from a scammer impersonating a company executive asking for a transfer of 1.8 million US dollars.
