Chinese Mainland's May Day Golden Week kicks off this Friday. The Immigration Department forecast that around 980,000 mainland tourists will visit Hong Kong, marking a roughly 7 percent increase compared to last year. High-speed rail tickets to Hong Kong on May 1 are largely sold out. To meet the high demand, 13 extra pairs of trains will run daily between Hong Kong and Shenzhen Futian from April 30 to May 3. Many of these services, however, are fully booked. The Travel Industry Council expects the first two days of the holiday to be the peak for arrivals. The body has advised travel agents to stagger arrival times for mainland groups, and coordinate with major attractions for better crowd control and traffic.
