Residents of Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po continued to return in batches to their fire damaged flats to collect belongings. Some brought flowers to mourn neighbours who perished in the fire, while others continued to hope that the government will extend their visits to their former homes. Today, residents from five floors of Wang Cheong House and ten floors of Wang Yan House were granted access to their former homes. Braving morning rain, many hauled large boxes and suitcases to pack up their belongings. One resident from the seventh floor of Wang Cheong House insisted on going upstairs, despite a leg injury. He said he could not risk missing the opportunity, as his father passed away nearly a year ago, he had to retrieve a kettle his family had used for 30 to 40 years, filled with memories despite its worn condition. However, after three hours of packing, he said the kettle he remembered was gone. Instead, he took a large glass ashtray, a reminder of his father who was a smoker. Some residents have exercised more over the past weeks knowing that they need to climb the stairs. Miss Wu here said three hours was far from enough to sort through years of belongings and wished for another visit, so the whole family could spend time together in the flat one last time, without rushing to pack. Some residents also commemorate the lives lost in the blaze. Wang Cheong House was where the fire first broke out at Wang Fuk Court and suffered the most severe damage -- with 81 fatalities. Ms. Chan here said her neighbours on both sides had passed away, and she brought flowers to pay respect. The government has arranged special emotional and psychological support for residents of Wang Cheong House and Wang Tai House. Support teams are stationed every four floors, and for units with fatalities, clinical psychologists and social workers accompanied the residents' visits.
