The government is exploring the feasibility of developing a mobile version of the JoyYou Card for the elderly. JoyYou card holders can enjoy concessionary fares on most public transport. In a written reply to the Legislative Council, Secretary for Labour and Welfare Chris Sun said the government received 2.68 million applications for JoyYou cards as of the end of February. Over the next three years, more than 110,000 people will turn 60 each year and become eligible for JoyYou card. The government is closely monitoring demand for digital services among beneficiaries and is working with Octopus and public transport operators to study the mobile option. Key considerations include enforcement and system support, including possible anti-fraud and identity verification features to prevent misuse.
