Peru's presidential election result is likely to be announced on Monday or later, after the process was mired with logistical issues.

Thousands of people in the country and abroad were unable to cast ballots.

The problem prompted electoral authorities to allow more than 52,000 residents of Lim to vote on Monday.

The extension also covers Peruvians registered to vote in parts of the US.

A presidential candidate needs more than 50% of votes to win outright.

However, runoff in June is virtually assured given the deeply divided electorate and the largest pool of candidates in Peruvian history.
