Australia's capital Canberra is testing neighbourhood-scale batteries which work like shared power banks to help ease pressure on the local electrictiy grid. Behind the artwork sits a battery, and it is one of the 400 being funded by the Australian federal government. It stores energy from solar panels in the middle of the day and enabling it to support the grid and households in the evening. With a total cost of more than 300 million Australian dollars once completed, the batteries will be able to store enough energy to power a third of Canberra for two hours during peak demand.
