In Jerusalem, some Israelis have demanded dismantlement of the Shiite militia group Hezbollah before any peace deal with Lebanon is considered.

Resident Yaniv Matsree said: "I think there's a chance of peace between Lebanon and Israel because the people over there, Hezbollah, they're destroying Lebanon. I think we should finish with them. After we finished with Hezbollah, we can try and make peace with Lebanon."

Resident Efraim Steiner said: "We love the Lebanese people. We don't like the terrorists. We don't like Hezbollah. Hezbollah, they are a part of Iran and they want to kill us, and whoever wants to kill us, we're going to get back to them."

Reactions are divided among Lebanese.

Some said they want fighting to end and that negotiation "is the only way to peace and for people to live," while displaced residents from southern Lebanon noted they do not trust Israel's intentions unless the enemies leave their land and stop attacks.

In the first official statement since Tel Aviv announced possible direct talks with Beirut, Hezbollah's chief Naim Kassem called on the Lebanese officials to stop offering "free concesssions."
