British defence minister said the UK military, in partnership with Norway and other allies, have foiled Russia's month-long submarine plot in the North Atlantic.

John Healey said in a Downing Street news conference that a Russian Akula-class attack submarine and two specialist submarines from GUGI were suspected of "malign activity" above cables and pipelines.

Healey said the vessels were "monitored 24/7" as he deployed a warship and aircraft in response, declaring there's no evidence of any damage to the UK's undersea infrastructure.

He said: "Those GUGI submarines have now left UK waters and headed back north. And this operation, which lasted more than a month, has now concluded."

"And I'm making this statement to call out this Russian activity and to President Putin I say: we see you, we see your activity over our cables and our pipelines and you should know that any attempt to damage them will not be tolerated and will have serious consequences."
