A sudden voltage drop occurred in several districts of Hong Kong Island this morning, resulting in approximately 100 reports of people being trapped in elevators. The Customs Headquarters building in North Point was affected, with some elevators malfunctioning after the voltage drop. Firefighters arrived at the scene to check if anyone was trapped. Additionally, several escalators at the Queensway Government Offices also stopped operating, and the voltage remained unstable for over an hour after the drop. The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 AM, with multiple districts on Hong Kong Island experiencing a sudden voltage drop. Firefighters received numerous reports of people being trapped in elevators in Central and Western District, Wan Chai, North Point, Shau Kei Wan, and Chai Wan. HK Electric said the voltage drop was caused by a fault at interconnection circuit with CLP Power, and that normal operation was immediately restored.
