International oil prices have collectively dropped upon the announcement of the temporary ceasefire between the US and Iran. Some analysts estimated that prices could continue to plummet if crude markets return to basic supply and demand levels. Amid the latest development in the US-Israeli war against Iran, US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that Washington has accepted a ceasefire framework put together by Pakistan. Under the proposal, the US will cease attacks on Iran for two weeks. Tehran has also accepted the temporary ceasefire, promising safe passage for vessels in the Strait of Hormuz for the same period of time. Global markets were calmed even with the temporary sign of peace, with oil prices tumbling in tandem with fears of energy supply shortage. Brent Crude prices slumped by 16 percent after the ceasefire announcement, marking the first time prices have dropped to below 100 US dollars after the start of the conflict in late February. Some analysts believe that if the war doesn't continue its escalation, crude prices will maintain its downward trajectory, returning to basic supply and demand levels. But international markets remain concerned with future negotiations between Washington and Tehran. A report from Bloomberg analysed uncertainties remain as to whether the Strait of Hormuz will be fully opened after this short period of peace. While oil tankers continue to maintain a cautious attitude when dealing with the strategic waterway, with the shipping sector stressing that they will send ships in the Persian Gulf region if the ceasefire lasts.
