Chinese diving star Quan Hongchan, a three-time Olympic gold medallist, has reportedly become a target of online bullying.

As the case has been reported to police, Chinese swimming authorities have also begun looking into the matter.

Quan won her first gold at the Tokyo Games 2020 at age 14 and two more in Paris 2024.

She has given several interviews in which she talked about toxic online commentary over her weight with her family and friends being targeted as well.

Coming into the spotlight lately is a WeChat group with nearly 300 members which reportedly launched cyberbullying attacks on Quan.

Now 19, Quan told Chinese magazine Renwu this year that she seriously considered retiring after the Paris Olympics before deciding she wanted to keep going.

China's Swimming Management Centre says it condemns such acts and would do its best to maintain a healthy public opinion environment for sports.
