A Chinese Kuomintang party delegation from Taiwan led by its chairwoman Cheng Li-wun landed in Shanghai earlier today.

During the six-day tour, Cheng is expected to pay a visit to the mausoleum of the party's founder Sun Yat-sen in Nanjing and hold meetings with senior Chinese Communist Party leaders in Beijing.

The chairwoman earlier said the trip is meant to show the whole world that both sides of the Taiwan Strait are longing for peace.

The KMT delegates were greeted at the Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport at noon by director of the Taiwan Affairs Office Song Tao before they travelled by Fuxing high-speed train to Nanjing, provincial capital of Jiangsu, where a welcome banquet was held.

In Nanjing, Cheng reiterated that her party will continue to uphold the 1992 Consensus, oppose "Taiwan Independence," and play a crucial role in promoting the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations.
