China discovers new rare earth reserves in a mining area in Sichuan province.

The Maoniuping rare earth mine now marks the world's second-largest reserves of light rare earth resources among producing mines.

According to mineral exploration results released by China's Ministry of Natural Resources, more than 9.6 million tonnes of rare earth oxides, along with some 27 million tonnes of fluorite and around 37 million tonnes of barite were identified in the Maoniuping mining area in Mianning County, Sichuan.

Fluorite is widely used in aerospace, refrigeration, medicine, electronics, machinery and nuclear energy.

Meanwhile, barite's primary use is in the oil and gas drilling industry, with key applications in the chemical, filler and medical imaging fields.
