Tai Po fire hearing starts with revelation on fire safety failures

Tai Po Wang Fuk Court Fire Independent Committee held its first public hearing this morning. 

In its opening statement, the committee said there is evidence showing the fire was caused by a cigarette butt, and that at the time of the blaze, nearly all firefighting/life-safety facilities failed completely due to human factors.

The first hearing was held in the morning at the City Gallery in Central.  

The committee previously listed 38 parties involved, including residents, the property management company, Will Power Architects, and government departments. Some attended with legal representatives.
