Attacks from Iran-linked forces continued in Iraq, as the US Embassy in Baghdad was hit. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said there will only be a "political solution" to the war in Iran. The US embassy in Iraq, located in Baghdad's Green Zone, was attacked early Tuesday, with facilities inside the compound catching fire. Two drones reportedly landed within the embassy perimeter and the subsequent explosions sparked a fire visible from outside the complex. The embassy's defense system failed to intercept the incoming drones. Meanwhile, European Union foreign ministers gathered in Brussels to discuss the Iran conflict. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said the ministers showed no appetite to boost the mandate of the bloc's Operation Aspides naval mission to protect shipping in the Red Sea up into the Persian Gulf. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said there will only be a "political solution" to the war in Iran. Speaking after a meeting with Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten in Berlin, Merz said "there will be no military solution here, there will only be a political solution." In the US, Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, the top Democrat in the House of Representatives, criticised US President Donald Trump's administration on the war in Iran.
