The Lebanese Health Ministry said almost 500 people have died since Israel stepped up its attacks on the country following renewed strikes with the militant group Hezbollah. This as Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned Iran Monday to avoid provocative steps after NATO air defense systems intercepted a ballistic missile that entered Turkish airspace. Strikes continue overnight hitting a Beirut suburb. The Israeli military said it was targeting Hezbollah's financial arm al-Qard Al-Hassan, as its ground forces in Lebanon's south launched 'focused raids' against what it called the group's infrastructure. But the death toll is rising. Malak Harb, The Associated Press said: "Almost 500 people in Lebanon have been killed in this latest conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, as it goes on for a second week with no end in sight. The Health Ministry's statement comes after intense Israeli strikes in Lebanon had especially targeted branches of Al-Qard Al-Hassan, Hezbollah's financial arm. The organisation provides microloans, but is under US sanctions and the group also uses it for financial transactions." This as Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned Iran to avoid provocative steps after NATO air defense systems intercepted a ballistic missile that entered Turkey's air space - the second such incident since the start of the war. Erdogan told his Cabinet that Ankara values its friendship with Iran and has been working towards preventing the conflict but Tehran risks damaging their friendship. Meanwhile several Iranian drones targeted the communication towers on Zimnako Mountain in Iraq's northern Kurdish region Monday. Witnesses to the attack said the strikes lasted for more than an hour. Hassan Ahmed who is from the area said: "I saw a drone hit the towers on Zimnako, the mountain. After 8,30 a.m. I sat down and it was about 20 to 30 minutes when the attacks started again". In Iraq's capital Baghdad dozens of demonstrators showed their support for Iran's new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, a son of the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. They held posters of the late supreme leader and carried Iranian flags while chanting anti-U.S. and anti-Israel slogans. And a helicopter carrying French President Emmanuel Macron landed on the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier off the coast of Crete. Macron met with officers on board and was briefed on military operations. France will deploy eight warships including the Charles de Gaulle and two helicopter carriers to the eastern Mediterranean and wider Middle East to bolster security around the European Union's eastern frontier.
