Pro-government supporters held gatherings across Iran to pledge allegiance to the new supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei.

Elsewhere, an Israeli military spokesman said his country "has eliminated more than 1,900 soldiers and commanders of the Iranian regime and injured thousands more.

Pro-government supporters held gatherings across Iran to pledge allegiance to the new supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei.

The younger Khamenei, who had not been seen or heard from publicly since the war started, had long been considered a contender for the post.

That was even before the Israeli strike killed his father, and despite never being elected or appointed to a government position.

Elsewhere, people ran for shelter on the streets of Tel Aviv, as a barrage of missiles swooshed through the sky.

The Israeli military said its air force intercepted several launches and several additional launches fell in an open area.

The barrage of missiles comes as an Israeli military spokesman said his country "has eliminated more than 1,900 soldiers and commanders of the Iranian regime
and injured thousands more."

Brigadier General Effie Defrin said Israel is intensifying the severe impact on all layers and structures of the Iranian regime.

He said Israel has many more targets and that six airfields had been attacked since the beginning of Operation Roaring Lion, the name Israel gives to its bombardment campaign in Iran.

Defrin said the transport infrastructure of the Quds Force had been destroyed. The Quds Force works heavily with Iran's allied militant groups in the region.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump had a telephone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss the war in Iran and other international topics, according to the Kremlin.

Putin's foreign affairs adviser Yuri Ushakov described the conversation as "frank and businesslike" which lasted about one hour.

He said Putin "voiced a few ideas aimed at a quick political and diplomatic settlement" of the conflict following his conversations with Gulf leaders and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

He added Trump offered his assessment of the developing situation " in the context of the ongoing US-Israeli operation."
