NPC chairman calls to promote the high-quality development of Congress's work this year

The National People's Congress Chairman Zhao Leji has called for efforts to promote the high-quality development of NPC's work this year.
He also announced that China will enact a law against cross-border corruption and strengthen legislative research in fields including artificial intelligence.
The second plenary session of the National People's Congress was held on Monday, attended by President Xi Jinping.
During the session, NPC Chairman Zhao Leji delivered a work report of the NPC Standing Committee.
He stated that over the past year, the committee reviewed documents related to private enterprise regulation and passed 24 legal documents, including those strengthening legislation in the economic sector.
Zhao said China will enact a law to provide a legal guarantee for the sustained, healthy and high-quality development of the private economy.
The law against unfair competition will also be revised to boost the development of a high-standard socialist market economy system. This year also marks the start of the 15th Five-Year Plan period.
Zhao said the NPC had conducted in-depth research and studies last year for the plan, resulting in 26 special reports.
According to the work report, more laws will be enacted this year, including a law against cross-border corruption, a financial law, and a state-owned assets law.
China will also strengthen legislative research in fields including artificial intelligence.
Zhao stressed that efforts will be made to improve the Chinese legal system and to safeguard and promote fairness and justice.
In terms of better leveraging the role of NPC deputies, he noted that service guarantees for deputies to perform their duties have been strengthened, with special lectures held for deputies from Hong Kong and Macao.
Zhao also stated that the NPC Standing Committee will contribute to ensuring a successful start to the 15th Five-Year Plan.
