NPC session commences as Premier Li Qiang said China's GDP grew 5% in 2025

The opening meeting of the 4th session of the 14th National People’s Congress commenced this morning in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

The event was attended by President Xi Jinping, other state leaders, as well as Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee.

Premier Li Qiang delivered the annual government work report. He said China’s GDP grew 5 percent year on year at 140 trillion yuan.

Li noted the country is facing both domestic and external challenges, and said China has made important contributions in the world’s development and peace.
