Today is World Obesity Day. The government has launched the city's inaugural action plan on weight management. This includes promoting the use of sports facilities by the public, and installing measuring equipment in various venues.

According to a survey conducted by the Department of Health between 2020 and 2022, at least half of the city's population is classified as overweight or obese.

This resident says, "I am almost overweight. I usually do exercise at night. If gyms are open overnight, why can't sports centres?"

This man says he has gained two to three kilograms recently due to a busy schedule. He hopes the government can build more public swimming pools, instead of just placing weighing equipment, which he has at home.

Obesity has always been an issue that concerns the government.

An interdepartmental weight management working group was established in October last year to coordinate policies.

The action plan will be implemented over three years, and each year will focus on a distinct theme, including "Raise Awareness," "Positive Changes," and "Maintenance - Part of Life."

The plan outlines five key directions and 15 objectives, including strengthening medical service, and providing support for weight management.

A set of key performance indicators is set to ensure the implementation of the action plan.

To facilitate incorporation of exercise into daily life, the authorities will add more sports facilities at public housing estates this year.
