In the south of Iran, a solemn mass burial was held for at least 165 people, mostly elementary schoolgirls, who were killed in Minab town, Hormozgan province by what Tehran described as the first wave of US-Israeli missile strikes. The bombing occurred on Saturday morning and left 96 others injured. The United Nations human rights office is calling for an urgent investigation. Spokesperson for the UN human rights office, Ravina Shamdasani, said: "In Iran, the Iran Red Crescent Society reports put the death toll at 787. In the single deadliest and devastating incident, dozens of girls were reportedly killed and injured when their primary school in Minab, in the south of the country, was struck during the school day. The High Commissioner calls for a prompt, impartial and thorough investigation into the circumstances of the attack. The onus is on the forces that carried out the attack to investigate it. We call on them to make public the findings and to ensure accountability and redress for the victims."
