Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, some Hongkongers residing in Dubai hope the Hong Kong Government can assist with their evacuation due to the conflict's worsening situation.

The Travel Industry Council of Hong Kong noted the temporary closure of the Dubai International Airport will continue to affect local travellers in the Middle East, Europe and Africa, but added that most of them are currently in safe condition.

Iran and Israel may be the main belligerents of the devastating conflict but several Arab nations in the Persian Gulf have also been subject to attacks.

Tony, a Hongkonger working in the information tech sector based in Dubai, said the recent strikes had a huge impact on him. He recalled hearing sounds of explosion as a result of missile or UAV interceptions near his location, adding that the glass inside his home began shaking.

Tony said he prepared ample food and a bag carrying items that could facilitate his evacuation in light of the current situation, and plans to travel to neighbouring Oman before flying to another Asian destination for safety.

He stressed his fear about evacuating with his two children, especially if they are faced with the possibility of a power outage or being cut off from the internet.

Tony pleaded for more support from Hong Kong authorities, particularly in the provision of more efficient travel arrangements and reminders.

This as Dong Lei, another Chinese national residing in Dubai, said life in the city remains relatively normal, saying that he has yet to witness scenes of panic buying at local supermarkets.

Dong said people continue to visit entertainment venues and aren't afraid to dine outside, emphasising that he won't stay at home and he won't fear intercepted missiles or debris falling from the sky.

He added that he only wishes normal citizens will not be dragged into the conflict and for peace to quickly return to the region.
