13 parents and a businessman were convicted of corruption for allegedly paying a total of 1.1 million dollars in bribes to an administrative officer at an ESF Wu Kai Sha International Kindergarten to help 12 children secure admission. The West Kowloon Magistrates' Courts heard that former administrative officer Fatima Rumjahn accepted bribes between 2018 and 2021 to arrange priority admission for 12 children. She earlier admitted accepting bribes. The remaining 14 defendants, aged between 35 and 48, were found guilty of conspiracy to offer advantages and related offences. The judge said she had turned prosecution witness and gave a detailed account of her dealings with the defendants. The 14 defendants were remanded in custody pending sentencing. The judge said imprisonment was unavoidable and rejected requests for social service orders. Sentencing has been adjourned until March 31st.
