The government has terminated its contract with the director of the Tianjin Liaison Unit, Ricky Cheng. This came after he was suspected of breaching the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance concerning civil servants accepting advantages without permission.

Authorities launched an investigation on Cheng after his social media posts on free upgrades during his trips to Tianjin and Macao had sparked public attention.

The government on Wednesday announced Cheng's contract termination after considering his Macao trip's upgrade as "accepting advantages without permission." The matter has already been referred to law enforcement agencies for follow up.
