Pickleball, which is a variation of tennis, table tennis and badminton, is one of the fastest-growing sports in the world and now in Hong Kong too.

There are currently more than ten outdoor and indoor courts provided by the government.

Speaking on TVB's Straight Talk Programme, Secretary General of the Pickleball Association of Hong Kong, Philip Chan said its association has cooperated with community halls and even some private clubs to provide venues for the public in a bid to meet the growing demand.

"The pickleball craze refreshes Hong Kong citizens' needs, their desire convenience and social sports. It fits Hong Kong's urban lifestyle," said Chan. "Venues is indeed our big challenge and opportunity.

"We have over 10,000 players now. Every day after their work, now they can't join the LCSD venues, so they turn their body and turn their face to the private clubs. So we cooperate with community halls almost at the 18 districts, the community halls have cooperated with us. And even some private clubs, say country clubs in the southern district."

Chan said he is looking forward to hosting a pickleball tournament in the coming year at the Kai Tak Sports Park, and inviting neighbouring cities and countries, such as Singapore and Indonesia.

He added the sport can also act as a bridge for sports and cultural exchange for the Greater Bay Area.
