Life is slowly returning to normalcy in Russia's far-east region of Kamchatka after brutal weather brought on what locals dubbed a "snow apocalypse."

Locals in Kamchatka were seen shovelling snow in the streets as traffic resumed on snow-covered roads.

A powerful cyclone hit the area last week, bringing strong winds and record snowfalls.

The height of snow reached three metres or more. Two men were killed by snow falling from roofs.

Locals have dubbed the recent extreme weather a "snow apocalypse." This, as ground floors of apartment buildings and private estates were snowed in.

Public transportation was partially suspended in the regional capital, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. Buses were replaced by all-terrain vehicles.

Elsewhere, members of a stand-up paddleboarding club in Russia's Siberian city of Novosibirsk decided temperatures of almost minus 40 degrees Celsius were no reason to put their favourite hobby on hold.

The paddleboarders made their way along one of the tributaries of the Ob River, which doesn't freeze even during severe wintry conditions.

According to the creator of the video, Vadim Makhorov, the thermometer in his car read minus 39 degrees Celsius, before the group set off down the river in the Novosibirsk region.
