The Hong Kong Marathon kicked off early this morning, with more than 70,000 participants. Among the races, the 10-kilometre event had the most runners. Participants said the dry and comfortable morning weather was conducive to good results.

The main event, the full marathon, had its starting ceremony officiated by Chief Executive John Lee. Over 18,000 runners set off at 6 a.m. from Nathan Road in Tsim Sha Tsui, passing Stonecutters Bridge and Tsing Ma Bridge, then through the Western Harbour Tunnel, before finishing at Victoria Park, covering a total distance of 42.195 kilometres.

As for the half marathon, about 25,000 participants started at 5:30 a.m. from Tsim Sha Tsui.

The most popular event, the 10-kilometre race with more than 31,000 registered runners, began at 5:30 a.m. in nine waves. Runners went along the Eastern Corridor to Shau Kei Wan, then turned back and finished at Victoria Park.
