Australian authorities say properties were destroyed and three people remain unaccounted for in the state of Victoria, as a heatwave triggered multiple fires in the area.

Aerial footage shows the destruction caused by bushfires burning in Victoria state.

Thirty fires are still active and weather conditions are set to worsen local authorities said.

Victorian Emergency Management issued a warning to residents in the affected areas to leave "if you haven't already," warning "If you don't leave now, it could result in your life being lost."

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese visited the National Emergency Management Agency in Canberra and repeated the emergency responders' warning.

"People need to listen to the advice as it comes through. If you're asked to leave your property, please do so," he said.
