Kew reveals top 10 new species of 2025

Britain's Royal Botanic Gardens Kew reveals its top 10 new species of 2025 - including a zombie fungus, a blood-stained orchid and a new guava/banana fruit. 

Over the past year, Kew's researchers and collaborators officially named 125 new plant species and 65 new fungi. 

Notable entries include a so-called zombie fungus that parasitizes trapdoor spiders in Brazil.

The discovery of previously unknown nature demonstrates the fragility of the natural world with climate change and human activities threatening the new finds with extinction. 

The annual list highlights the vast amount of nature still awaiting discovery and underscores Kew's role in confronting the global extinction crisis.
