China concludes its first astronaut cave-training mission in Chongqing

A team of Chinese astronauts underwent a round of tough training in a mountainous area of Chongqing municipality. 

During the month-long training programme divided the team of 28 into four groups.

Each took turns continuously staying in a cave with an average temperature of 8 degrees Celsius and humidity as high as 99 percent for 6 days and 5 nights. 

They were trained to face extreme space conditions, such as isolation, confinement, and high risk. 

Their tasks included cave exploration, scientific research, material management and life support. 

The astronauts had to face extreme physical endurance tests, as well as psychological hurdles such as darkness and sensory deprivation. 

The programme also included 2 days of jungle training.
